Justin Newberger is the Director of the College Park Youth Orchestra, for musicians from Prince Georges County and the Greater Washington, DC metropolitan area. He is a York County, PA native who studied violin under Kathleen Yeater. He grew up as a musician in the York Junior and Youth Symphonies attending Susquehannock HS. He holds a B.S. in Music Education from Towson University where he was awarded a full-tuition music scholarship and was the concertmaster of the university orchestra for 3 years. He also holds a M. Ed. from Loyola University of MD in Educational Leadership. He has over 25 years of private teaching experience and over a decade of experience teaching orchestra in the public schools of Maryland and West Virginia. He was the assistant director of the York Junior Symphony for 10 years and has coached violins at Shippensburg and Shepherd Universities. As a violinist, he has over 20 years of performance experience in various orchestras and chamber ensembles of Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia including the York Symphony, Shippensburg Festival Orchestra, Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, Pennsylvania Philharmonic, and Maryland Symphony. He is the previous orchestra director of the Jim Henson School for the Arts where he taught for 3 years. Currently, he enjoys teaching middle school orchestra in Howard County, MD.
