In addition to being a professional writer (soon to be retired from technical writing and finally embarking on what she wants to write), Janis is very active in two groups who focus on local environmental issues. For the Prince George’s group of the Sierra Club, she is still an active volunteer after a four-year stint on its executive committee. She is also the co-chair of the City of College Park’s Committee for a Better Environment (CBE), whose goals are to advise the Mayor and Council and to educate residents about the environment. In addition to being a board member of CPAE, she has enjoyed being a long-time member of the very educational and enjoyable CPAE book group, which focuses on books by women and about women.
