Harriet Tubman Assemblage Workshop

To celebrate Harriet Tubman Day, join us for an assemblage workshop with Racquel Keller. Look at an old photo of Harriet Tubman and make an artistic interpretation of it using old magazines, pieces of fabric and any other junk you may have tucked away.

Supply List:
Odds and ends to use in your art: 
  • Things you have found on a walk
  • Old fabric
  • Magazines
  • All that stuff you have tucked away in your junk drawers. 
  • Really anything you think may add to the story you are trying to tell. 
Something to put your art in:
  • Picture frame (a shadow box frame will add extra dimension)
  • Cigar box
  • Cardboard box
  • Old food box (i.e. cereal, pasta, or tissue.)

Something to hold it all together:

  • Elmer’s Glue (this will work if your work is largely just paper.) 
  • If you have things that are a bit heavier to attach, you will want a hot glue gun, E6000, or clear Gorilla Glue.
  • If you have fabric, you will want Sobo glue

Things to embellish your work with:

  • Glitter
  • Paint (Acrylic, Tempera, or Craft Paint)
  • Markers

Tools:

  • Paper towels
  • Q-tips (for glue)
  • Scissors
  • Tweezers
  • Paintbrushes
  • Paper Plates (for glue and paints)
