The Humor Writing Workout, taught by Mary Amato
 Mondays in November, 7:30 - 9:30 pm
at the Old Parish House, 4711 Knox Road, College Park.

Fee: $70 for the four-session series.

Editors are always on the lookout for laughs—even in serious work—so do yourself a huge favor and develop your humor-writing muscles. Through readings, discussion, and writing exercises, we’ll explore four distinct styles of humor, analyzing what works and why. This is not a joke-writing class; it’s a class that will push us to explore different styles of humor in our own writing, whether that be in fiction, poetry, play writing, screen writing, or creative non-fiction.
Mary Amato is known for her comic novels for the children's and YA market. She is also a poet, playwright, and songwriter. Her books have been translated into foreign languages, optioned for television, produced onstage, and have won numerous awards. Her work for adults has been published in magazines and newspapers, such as The Washington Post and Mothering.
