The Book Club meets the third Tuesday each month, 7:00 - 8:30 pm. Now meeting at the College Park Community Library, 9704 Rhode Island Ave, College Park, MD 20740, in the basement of the Nazarene Church.

Our theme is literary non-fiction by women, though we have been known to read a novel or something by a man. Our meetings are informal and you are welcome even if you did not finish the book!

Some of our favorite books have included: Alex and Me, by Irene Pepperberg (a scientist writes about the amazing parrot she worked with for 28 years); Reading Lolita in Tehran, by Azar Nafisi (an Iranian professor of English Literature writes about her experience of the Revolution and her belief in the importance of English literature); Fun Home, by Alison Bechdel (an illustrated autobiography, comic book style); Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi (another "graphic novel" by another Iranian woman). We sometimes go on outings as well: including trips to see movies including "Julie and Julia" and "Hidden Figures".

If you are interested, please rsvp by emailing info@cpae.org; our schedule is subject to change.

Paint Branch Creek - featuring musicians Eric Maring, Allison Hughes, Greg Heelan, Patrick Lynch and Arun Ivatury, with lyrics by Eric Olson - is an acoustic musical collaboration rooted firmly in Americana. The group’s original songs have quietly come to life during late College Park nights and sessions in a Gettysburg barn. Conjuring visions of America - night shifts and mill towns; prairie lands and open road - some reflect on where we've been, some question where we're going, and some just linger on old memories.

Paint Branch Creek casts a musical spell that delights fans of acoustic performance. Evocative lyrics inspire the group’s bold original music. Daring guitar work coupled with the sweet sound of mandolin and violin form the perfect instrumental base for rich three-, four-, and even five-part vocal harmonies. Whether delicate or hard-driving, each song is unforgettable.

Paint Branch Creek has created deep connections with its enthusiastic audiences and earned loyal fans. Engaging and personable on stage, the group creates shows that are thoroughly entertaining, deeply moving, and not to be missed.

We meet weekly on Sunday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30pm at the St. Andrew's church in College Park, under the direction of Allison Hughes. We perform a wide variety of chorale music at two concerts per year, as well as in local community events. All voice parts and levels of experience are welcome - no audition required.

Hosted by fiddler Liberty Rucker and guitarist Eric Maring (Mr. M), CPYMT focuses on ear and group playing based around the fiddle tradition. Music selections will be largely instrumental with the aim of having fun with the music as a group as well as performing the tunes for listening and dancing audiences. Stephen and Matilda, Part I, is not a newly discovered play by William Shakespeare—but its actual author, Gordon Geise, would fain have you believe so. Meticulously constructed of Shakespearean verse, grammar, diction, and wordplay, Stephen and Matilda is a history play about the reign (1135–1154) of England's King Stephen and the competing claim of the so-called "Empress" Matilda, daughter and would-be successor of Henry I. As in the Bard's work, the ensuing political intrigues are viewed through the eyes of both royalty and commoners. College Park Arts Exchange is pleased to sponsor the first public reading of this new "Fakespeare" play.
