November 17 and 18, 2017 - "Paint Branch Creek" is an acoustic College Park musical collaboration, rooted firmly in Americana. Their original songs feature the rich guitar and bold harmonies of local favorites Eric Maring (Mr. M), Greg Heelan, Patrick Lynch, and Allison Hughes, with lyrics by Eric Olson. For more than two years, these songs have quietly come to life during late College Park nights. They represent slices of America, from trains and farms, to night shifts and mill towns. Some reflect on where we've been, some question where we're going, and some just linger on old memories.
Paint Branch Creek brings an exciting weekend of music to the Old Parish House where they've previously held tributes to Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and the Beatles' Abbey Road record among others. This two night performance features a full collection of original songs as well as some traditional favorites with special guests including Rocky Korr and the next generation. Bring yourselves, your families, your voices.

 Mondays in November, 7:30 - 9:30 pm
at the Old Parish House, 4711 Knox Road, College Park.

Fee: $70 for the four-session series.

Editors are always on the lookout for laughs—even in serious work—so do yourself a huge favor and develop your humor-writing muscles. Mary Amato is known for her comic novels for the children's and YA market. She is also a poet, playwright, and songwriter. Her books have been translated into foreign languages, optioned for television, produced onstage, and have won numerous awards. College Park Youth Music Traditions invites youth musicians to explore “traditional” genres including Old Time, Irish, Bluegrass, and Americana. Hosted by fiddler Liberty Rucker and guitarist Eric Maring (Mr. M), CPYMT focuses on ear and group playing based around the fiddle tradition. Music selections will be largely instrumental with the aim of having fun with the music as a group as well as performing the tunes for listening and dancing audiences.
