College Park residents Kristen Koyama and Mark H Rooney are joined by Erika Ninoyu and Kota Mizutani to perform “taiko” – a celebratory Japanese style of dynamic drumming based in festival music tradition (“matsuri bayashi”) but infused with a contemporary sensibility. Often referred to as “full-body drumming”, the physicality of the techniques combine with the fluid movements to create a visual language. www.markhtaiko.com

Rowan Corbett, 4:30 pm, 4902 Quebec St.

DC-area singer/songwriter Rowan Corbett brings a mixture of modern and traditional sounds, instruments, and sensibilities to his original music, Irish, English and Scottish folk tunes, Early-American Ballads and acoustic renditions of modern Rock and Electronica. Rowan plays guitar, Irish bouzouki, plectrum and claw-hammer banjo, hand drums, bodhrán and the bones. Rowan has played with  ilyAIMY, Carolina Chocolate Drops and Rhiannon Giddens, and is a co-founding member of the Irish/Old-Time band, Tinsmith. www.rowancorbett.com

Mixing genres from rock to folk to soul to bluegrass, flavours as varied as jazz and hip hop curl through the band’s sound, which includes guitars, electric cello, a bevy of percussion, and lush harmony. Among other accolades, ilyAIMY are multiple winners of the Washington Area Music Association’s “Best Contemporary Folk Group” award. www.ilyaimy.com
