Old Parish House, Knox Rd, College Park View mapEducArte is building a big batucada group and we want you to participate. Led by EducArte’s carioca drumming director André Coelho, you will learn and play in a supportive, creative environment. Instruments provided. We offer our Brazilian carnival dance and batucada workshops twice a month. Dance classes are donation-based and percussion rehearsals are $15/drop-in or $80 for the semester. Scholarship assistance available.
All levels are welcome to participate.
Note: There are now simultaneous workshops for children and adults. Children are invited to learn Brazilian samba percussion (bateria) and jam with master percussionist Filipe Brandão. Originally from Minas Gerais, Brazil and now based in the Washington D.C. area, Filipe provides a safe and inclusive space for youth to learn and play music together toward a common creative goal. All levels are welcome to participate. Lessons are taught in Brazilian Portuguese and English. If you want to strengthen your children’s ties to their home culture and heritage language, or if you want a great, authentic music experience for your little ones, then sign up now! Note: Children must be accompanied by an adult at these sessions. No drop-offs allowed. Recommended for children ages 6 and up
