College Park Arts Exchange  Presents PorchFourth!   

A celebration of musical acts around the neighborhoods of College Park!

Attention: Do wear your mask, observe physical distancing at all times, and bring your own blanket or chairs. Maximum crowd size is 50 people or less — look for some of these events to be livestreaming.  Also, plan ahead and use your bathroom at home before attending PorchFourth events! This is a rain or shine event.  Please put safety first in case of lightning. You are welcome to support the performers with tips! Some have provided online links to make this easier.

To Host – we can assign musicians to perform in your yard.  All you might need to provide is possibly an outdoor outlet.    Sign up here.

CALVERT HILLS

Theo and Robert Baum & Guests, 6:30-8:30pm, 7103 Rhode Island Avenue (near Guilford).

A deep dive into PostRock and ProgRock musical influences from the late 70s and early 80s including Talking Heads, Joy Division, Swans, and The Cure. Theo (guitar, drums, keys) and Robert (keys and drums) have played DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and HERO IN THE EPIC shows with Eric Maring at the Old Parish House. 

Security Council,  3, 5 and 7pm for 30 mins each, 7011 Wake Forest Drive

New wave style music. Performing songs from upcoming album “The COVID Sessions” written during and about the pandemic.

BERWYN

Taiko Drumming, 4 pm and 6 pm, 4902 Quebec St.

Kristen Koyama and Mark H Rooney perform “taiko” – a celebratory Japanese style of dynamic drumming based in festival music tradition (“matsuri hayashi”) but infused with a contemporary sensibility. Often referred to as “full-body drumming”, the physicality of the techniques combine with the fluid movements to create a visual language as well. www.markhtaiko.com

Rowan Corbett, 4:30 pm, 4902 Quebec St.

DC-area singer/songwriter Rowan Corbett brings a mixture of modern and traditional sounds, instruments, and sensibilities to his original music, Irish, English and Scottish folk tunes, Early-American Ballads and acoustic renditions of modern Rock and Electronica. Rowan plays guitar, Irish bouzouki, plectrum and claw-hammer banjo, hand drums, bodhrán and the bones. Rowan has played with  ilyAIMY, Carolina Chocolate Drops and Rhiannon Giddens, and is a co-founding member of the Irish/Old-Time band, Tinsmith. www.rowancorbett.com

ilyAIMY, 6:30 pm, 4902 Quebec St.

ilyAIMY (i love you And I Miss You) is a percussive-acoustic folk-rock animal hailing from Baltimore, MD. Mixing genres from rock to folk to soul to bluegrass, flavours as varied as jazz and hip hop curl through the band’s sound, which includes guitars, electric cello, a bevy of percussion, and lush harmony. Among other accolades, ilyAIMY are multiple winners of the Washington Area Music Association’s “Best Contemporary Folk Group” award. www.ilyaimy.com
