Petal Porches

Petal Porches

With Groundhog’s Day behind us, Winter is officially half over, and it is time to expectantly await the coming of spring.
For the second year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival encourages area residents to decorate their porch, stoop, balcony or window with festive pink Cherry Blossom displays.

At this URL https://nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/event/petal-porches/ you can find out more about Petal Porches, including how to register for official inclusion in the Cherry Blossom Festival, rules, and several videos on making your own cherry blossom decorations by upcycling common materials. Please note that registration is now open, and to participate, you should plan to have your decorations on display from March 20 through April 17.

Materials used to decorate can include anything you like! Upcycling old party decorations, wrapping paper, and plastic bags and bottles is my favorite way to decorate. Many people have used balloons, paper lanterns, crepe paper, and cherry blossom branches and garlands in decorating. A few have extended the theme to include a unicorn carrying the Bidens, prancing pink ninjas, pink rabbits, and of course, pink flamingos. What will you come up with? We are eager to know!! CPAE would love to see College Park Neighborhoods showing their Spring Spirit by decorating with Cherry Blossoms.  You may also wish to show your love for College Park and for your neighborhood, however that looks to you!
If you want to share your porch ideas, please do so at our Facebook page, and let us know what creative concepts you’ve come up with!
